UTMA/UGMA Savings

The Uniform Gift to Minors Act (UGMA) or the Uniform Transfers to Minors Act (UTMA) is an alternative for structuring accounts owned by children. A member can fund an account for their child and limit access until their child reaches the age of maturity (depends on the state). A child is the account owner, and a parent is listed as the account custodian, with control of the account until adult status is the child is no longer a minor. When adult status is attained, the parent is removed as a custodian of the account.
